School Council

We have a very active school council that makes sure pupils are kept at the heart of all that we do at Trinity Fields. They make decisions on important areas of school life, such as playground design, working on how we can make sure all pupils' achievements are recognised, looking at how we can help in our local community, as well as supporting governors by helping to interview new staff.

Our school council meet regularly and then the Head Boy, Head Girl and any other elected members who are on the sub-committees feedback to Mr Elliott about the progress that we have made and what we have discussed.

Our school council have hosted many important visitors over recent years; these have included:  Children's Commissioners for Wales- Keith Towler and the current Commissioner- Sally Holland, we have had a school council meeting with Hefin David AM for Caerphilly, as well as the Cabinet Secretary for Education at the Welsh Government- Kirsty Williams AM, along with Professor Graham Donaldson.

During the last school year we have been working on several key issues:

  • Rights Respecting Schools- we worked with staff, parents and governors to make sure we had lots of work to show the UNICEF assessors. We were awarded Rights Respecting Schools status in January 2017. We have maintained this for the second year!  We are very proud.
  • We have been working on Pupil Friendly School Development Plan and policies for 2017-18.  We are sharing these in school council meetings and lessons.  They are also available to view on the school website.
  • Our most recent project is evaluating school lunches and the choices on offer. We will be gathering pupils opinions in the next school council meeting and feeding back to the catering staff.

What's to come?

Over the coming school year we will be working with pupils and staff in the Foundation Phase classes to develop a new playground for our youngest pupils. We have loads of GREAT ideas but we don't have all of the money that we need to make their play area the best it can be! If you have any fundraising ideas then please let Jenny Evans know - she is a specialist teaching assistant at school and she supports our school council.
