Healthy Schools

The Welsh Network of Healthy School Schemes was launched in 1999 to encourage the development of local healthy school schemes within a national framework.

We are currently working towards the National Quality Award (NQA) for Healthy Schools which is the final accreditation for outstanding practice. We are hoping to be successful in obtaining the NQA by the end of the spring term (2018).

The Welsh Government and Public Health Wales have provided funding and guidance to help health and education services working in partnership to set up and run local healthy school schemes in all 22 local authorities across Wales.

Since it was established in 2001 the Caerphilly Healthy Schools Scheme has grown rapidly and we now have all schools actively engaged. The Healthy Schools Team work with pupils, teachers, parents and a range of partners to improve the health of whole school communities. Our primary aim is to support schools to develop a whole school approach to health through its work in 7 key areas:

   Food and Fitness
Mental and Emotional Health and Well-being
  Personal Development and Relationships
  Substance use and misuse
