First Gesture Based Technology meeting

Trinity Fields hosted a gathering of teachers, educators and specialists from Wales and the UK for it's first meeting of a Gesture Based Technology Professional Learning Community.
The Gesture Based Technology Professional Learning Community will look at how technology that uses natural movement can help children with severe learning difficulties.  Trinity Fields School is already leading the way in using programs that utilize the Kinect motion sensor, iPads, interactive floor projectors and eye-gaze technology.  These technologies use whole body movement, finger movement or eye movement to enable pupils to effect their own environment.  We hope the technology will help our pupils to achieve their full potential.  The school is already well on its way, having led an iPad PLC looking into using tablet technology with pupils with severe learning difficulties.
The first meeting on the 22nd November was attended by teachers and representatives from a number of special schools.  We looked at evidence of the systems in action with pupils from Trinity Fields School and Oak Grove College in Sussex.  The PLC will be investigating the use of modern technology and how it can benefit our pupils in more depth, collecting evidence as it does.
The next meeting on February 7th will look at the Somantics motion based kinect program and eyegaze technology in more depth.
